These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of Clairix (“Clairix”, “we”, “us”). They govern your use of the Clairix Android app in every edition, the Clairix relay and call servers, and this website (together, the “Service”).
By installing or using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. What Clairix is
Clairix is a personal security app. It helps you detect hidden cameras, Bluetooth trackers, spyware, suspicious Wi-Fi networks and suspicious cellular activity, and it provides end-to-end encrypted messaging and calls between Clairix users. It also includes emergency tools, offline navigation and NFC reading.
Clairix is a detection aid and a private communication channel. It is not an emergency service, a security guard or a guarantee of safety. If you believe you are in danger, contact local emergency services.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it you confirm that you are. Clairix is not directed at children.
3. Your account
Comms creates an account on the Clairix relay consisting of a random Clairix number and your public keys. There is no password. Your identity key, held on your phone, is the only credential. If you lose the phone or wipe the app, we cannot recover the account, the number or your message history, and we cannot reset anything. Keep your phone and its passcode secure.
You may register through an invite from an existing user. Each account may create a limited number of invites per day. Do not share invites with people you do not know.
4. Price
Every feature of Clairix is currently provided free of charge. We may introduce paid features in the future. If we do, we will publish the terms that apply to them before they take effect, and nothing you already have on your phone will be taken away.
5. Acceptable use
Clairix exists to help people find out whether they are being watched and to talk privately with people they trust. You agree to use it only for that purpose and only within the law.
You must not use the Service to:
- Track, locate, monitor, follow or surveil any person without their knowledge and consent. This includes using the tracker, network or pattern-of-life features against someone else, and using Comms to coordinate stalking, harassment or abuse.
- Harass, threaten, intimidate or abuse anyone.
- Access, probe or interfere with networks, devices, cameras or cards that you do not own or have permission to test. The network sweep is for the Wi-Fi network you are lawfully connected to and the devices on it that you are entitled to inspect.
- Emulate, clone or present a card or credential you do not own, or use one in a way its issuer forbids (Clairix Full).
- Break the law in your jurisdiction, including laws about electronic surveillance, radio reception, interception and computer misuse. Some countries restrict decoding certain radio signals or scanning networks. You are responsible for knowing the rules where you are.
- Attack, overload, reverse-proxy or scrape the relay, impersonate another Clairix number, or attempt to defeat rate limits or authentication.
- Distribute malware or unlawful content through Comms.
- Resell, sublicense or offer the relay as a service to others without our written permission.
- Interfere with other users’ use of the Service.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Because the relay holds no content, our ability to detect abuse is limited, and we rely on reports to [email protected].
6. Detection is best-effort
You acknowledge and agree that:
- No detection method is complete. Clairix cannot find every camera, tracker, piece of spyware, rogue network or fake cell tower. Cameras with no line of sight, analogue wireless cameras, cameras that only record locally, trackers that do not use Bluetooth, and spyware with system or root privileges are among the things it cannot detect.
- Results are indicators, not proof. A device detected by Clairix is not conclusive evidence of surveillance, and a clean result is not proof that none exists. Always verify a finding through more than one method before acting on it.
- Cell-tower and Wi-Fi analysis are heuristic. They score behaviour against a baseline and can produce both false alarms and misses.
- Evidence reports record what the app observed. We make no representation about their admissibility or weight in any proceeding.
- Clairix depends on your phone’s hardware and on Android. Features may behave differently across devices and Android versions, and some are unavailable on older versions.
You use the Service at your own risk and remain responsible for your own safety decisions.
7. Clairix Full
Clairix Full is distributed from our website as an APK and includes features not available in the Play edition. It is not reviewed by Google and does not update automatically. You are responsible for verifying the download against the published checksum and for installing updates. Features in Clairix Full that interact with cards or tokens are provided for lawful use with your own property only.
ClairixCoin is an in-app token with no monetary value. It cannot be purchased with money, cannot be redeemed for money or goods from us, and may be reset or discontinued at any time without liability.
8. The relay and availability
We operate the relay and call servers to deliver encrypted messages and calls. We aim to keep them available but do not guarantee uptime. Undelivered envelopes are deleted after 30 days. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, for security, or to comply with the law.
We do not read, and cannot read, the content of your messages or calls. We may collect the minimum metadata described in the Privacy Policy to operate the Service.
9. Your content
You own what you send. You grant us only the limited right to store and forward your encrypted envelopes for the purpose of delivering them. You are responsible for what you send and for having the right to send it.
10. Intellectual property
The Clairix name, logo, app and website are owned by Clairix or its licensors. These terms do not grant you any right to use the Clairix name or marks. Map data is from OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL. The encryption library vodozemac and other open-source components are used under their respective licences, which are listed in the app.
11. Third-party services
Clairix uses OpenStreetMap for map tiles and address search, GitHub for offline map downloads, Cloudflare for hosting the relay and call relays, and Google Play for distribution of the Play edition. Your use of those services is subject to their terms. We are not responsible for them.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will detect any particular threat, that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will meet your requirements.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Clairix and anyone who works on it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, safety, privacy, revenue or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising from the Service will not exceed USD 50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations. In those places our liability is limited to the extent the law permits. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold Clairix harmless from claims, damages and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your violation of these terms or your misuse of the Service, including any use against another person.
15. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. Panic Wipe or Unpair deletes your relay account. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Sections 6, 9, 12, 13, 14 and 16 survive termination.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the country, and where applicable the state or province, in which you habitually reside, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or the Service that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction. Nothing in this section deprives you of protections that the consumer law of your place of residence grants you and that cannot be waived by agreement.
Before filing a claim, you agree to write to us at [email protected], describe the problem, and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.
17. Export and encryption
Clairix contains encryption and is subject to United States export regulations. You confirm that you are not located in, and will not use the Service in, a country subject to a United States embargo, and that you are not on any United States restricted-party list.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The current version is always at https://clairix.app/terms with its effective date. For material changes we will give notice in the app or on the website before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance of the new terms.
19. General
These terms are the entire agreement between you and Clairix about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms; we may assign them to a successor who takes over operating the Service. Notices to you may be given in the app or on the website.
